Reading logs in Gearbelt keep a full history of unit readings for each asset. Logs can be added manually from the asset profile, or created automatically when a submitted record form — such as an inspection, issue, or schedule — includes a Unit Reading field.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Adding a Reading Log Manually
Open Gearbelt Web and select Assets from the left-hand menu.
Select the asset you want to add a reading for.
Select Reading Logs from the asset's left-hand menu.
Click + Create Reading Log.
In the Create Reading Log drawer, select a Unit.
Enter the reading.
Click Save.
Note: The latest reading is displayed for reference. A warning will appear if the entered reading is more than 20% higher or lower than the previous reading. This warning does not prevent you from saving the log.
How Readings from Record Forms Are Captured
When a record form that includes a Unit Reading field is submitted, the reading is automatically saved to the asset's Reading Logs. This applies to inspection, issue, and schedule record forms.
To view all reading logs for an asset, select Reading Logs from the asset's left-hand menu. Each entry displays the source of the reading in the Source column — entries added manually are labelled Manual, while entries created from a record form show the name of the form.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Can I delete a reading log entry?
A: Reading logs cannot be deleted once created. If an incorrect reading has been entered, you can add a new log with the correct value and note the correction.
Q: Will a reading from a record form override my manually entered readings?
A: No. Each reading log entry is recorded separately regardless of source. All entries are visible in the Reading Logs tab with their source labelled.
Q: Can I filter the Reading Logs tab by source?
A: Yes. The Source column in the Reading Logs tab includes a filter, so you can view only manual entries or only entries from a specific form.
