How to Use the Unit Reading Field on Gearbelt

Learn how to record and track asset readings for maintenance and inspection purposes using Gearbelt

Written by Nina Yang

You can build all your forms in Gearbelt using the Unit Reading field. It supports decimal values, displays the last recorded reading, and alerts operators if the entered value is incorrect. Operators can now submit both higher and lower readings, and all submissions are logged to the asset profile for full accountability.

Prerequisites

Before you begin make sure you have the following:

  • Plan: All Plan Types

  • Permission: Gearbelt Contributor

  • Skills Required: Gearbelt Navigation

  • Device Type: Computer/Browser

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the Management Section: Navigate to the Management tab in the sidebar and open the relevant category (Inspections, Issues, or Schedules).

  2. Open the Forms Tab: Select the appropriate Forms tab (Inspection Form, Schedule Form, or Repair Form).

  3. Create a New Form: Click Create Form (green button on the far right).

  4. Add the Unit Reading Field: In the form builder, drag and drop the Unit Reading field into your form.

  5. Select the Unit Type: Choose the default unit as Hours or Kilometers.

  6. Set the Field Requirement (Optional): Enable Required if operators must complete this field before submitting the form.

Notes

  • The Unit Reading field supports decimal values and displays the last recorded reading to help operators enter accurate values.

  • A warning may appear if the entered value seems incorrect:

    • No warning: The value is within 20% of the last recorded reading.

    • Low reading warning: The value is lower than the last recorded reading.

    • Much higher reading warning: The value is more than 20% higher than the last recorded reading.

  • These warnings do not prevent form submission. They only help operators check their input.

Tips

  • All submitted Unit Reading values are automatically saved to the asset profile.

  • To view the history of readings:

    1. Go to the Assets tab under the Admin section.

    2. Select the asset you want to review.

    3. Open the Reading Logs tab to view the full history of Unit Readings.
