How to Scan a QR Code to Access an Asset in Gearbelt Mobile Web

Learn how to use the in-app QR scanner to open an asset profile directly in Gearbelt Mobile Web.

Written by Nina Yang

Gearbelt Mobile Web (GBMW) includes a built-in QR code scanner that lets you open an asset's profile instantly — no searching or scrolling required. When you're standing in front of an asset, tap the QR code button in the app, point your camera at the asset's code, and the asset profile opens directly in GBMW.

Prerequisites

  • Plan: All Plan Types

  • Permission: Gearbelt Contributor

  • Device Type: Mobile browser

  • Subscription: Gearbelt

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open Gearbelt Mobile Web in your mobile browser and log in to your workspace.

  2. Tap the QR code button in the app.

  3. If your browser asks for camera access, tap Allow. You only need to do this the first time you use the scanner on that browser.

  4. Point your camera at the QR code on the asset.

  5. The asset profile opens directly in Gearbelt Mobile Web.

Notes

  • The first time you use the in-app QR scanner, your mobile browser will prompt you to allow camera access. Tap Allow to continue. You won't be prompted again on the same browser.

  • If you see an Asset not found message after scanning, the QR code may belong to an unassigned asset, an archived asset, or an asset in a different workspace. Contact your admin to confirm the asset is active and assigned to your workspace.

  • If you scan a Gearbelt QR code using your phone's default camera app — outside of GBMW — you will be routed to Sitemate Mobile or the Operator Web App, not Gearbelt Mobile Web. To open an asset profile in GBMW, always use the QR code button inside the Gearbelt Mobile Web app.
