What is Gearbelt Mobile Web

Gearbelt Mobile Web is the mobile browser experience for mechanics to manage work orders, issues, schedule checks, and assets — no app install required.

Written by Nina Yang

Gearbelt Mobile Web (GBMW) is a mobile browser experience that gives mechanics direct access to their work — no app install required. It replaces the Gearbelt Mechanic Web App with a faster, work-first workflow built around what mechanics actually do on the job.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

  • Plan: All Plan Types

  • Permission: Gearbelt Contributor

  • Skills Required: Gearbelt Navigation

  • Device Type: Mobile browser

  • Subscription: Gearbelt

Who Gearbelt Mobile Web is for

Gearbelt Mobile Web is built for Gearbelt contributors — anyone who is a Member or Admin in the workspace — who carry out work on assets in the field or workshop.

Mechanics access GBMW on their mobile device through a web browser. No app download is needed.

Admins continue to use the Gearbelt web app on desktop to set up assets, schedules, forms, and assign work. Gearbelt Mobile Web complements the desktop experience — it does not replace it.

What's new compared to the Gearbelt Mechanic Web App

The Gearbelt Mechanic Web App was built around scanning a QR code on an asset, then deciding what to do. Gearbelt Mobile Web flips the model — mechanics start with the work they need to do, not the asset they're standing in front of.

Key changes:

  • Work-first navigation. Mechanics land on the Work Orders tab and see exactly what's assigned to them, sorted and filterable.

  • Mechanics can raise work themselves. Issues, repair records, and work orders can all be created in the app — no need to wait for an admin.

  • Asset context where it's needed. Assets, issues, schedule checks, and work orders are all linked, so mechanics can see the full picture without leaving the workflow.

  • Cleaner experience. Designed for mobile from the start, with the four tabs mechanics use most: Assets, Work Orders, Issues, and Schedule Checks.

What mechanics can do in Gearbelt Mobile Web

Mechanics can:

  • View, search, sort, and filter work orders

  • Create and resolve issues on assets

  • Create repair records linked to issues

  • View and complete schedule checks by submitting the schedule form

  • Browse assets in the workspace

  • Create work orders directly from the app

  • View reading logs recorded against an asset

  • View, search, sort, and filter inspection records for an asset

📓 Note: The Gearbelt Mechanic Web App has been replaced by Gearbelt Mobile Web. If you were previously using the Mechanic Web App, your work history and assets remain accessible in Gearbelt — you'll now access them through Gearbelt Mobile Web instead.

What's not in Gearbelt Mobile Web (yet)

  • Offline mode. GBMW requires an internet connection to load and submit work. Full offline support is not available in GBMW.

📓 Note: The native Gearbelt Mobile (GBM) app includes an offline banner that pauses API queries when connectivity is lost and resumes them automatically when restored. This is network awareness — not full offline support. You cannot submit or retrieve data in either GBMW or GBM while offline.

  • Native mobile app. GBMW runs in a mobile browser. The native Gearbelt Mobile (GBM) app for iOS and Android is actively in development and receiving new features.
