What does the offline banner mean in Gearbelt Mobile?

Learn what the offline banner is and when it appears in the Gearbelt Mobile app.

Written by Nina Yang

Gearbelt Mobile (GBM) is the native iOS and Android app for mechanics who carry out work on assets in the field. When your device loses internet connectivity, the app displays an offline banner to let you know that your connection has dropped. This is network awareness — not offline support.

Prerequisites

  • Subscription: Gearbelt

  • Device Type: iOS or Android mobile device with the Gearbelt Mobile app installed

What the offline banner is

The offline banner is a visual indicator in the Gearbelt Mobile app that appears automatically when your device has no internet connection.

What happens when connectivity drops

The app automatically pauses any in-progress API queries to prevent failed requests. When your connection is restored, those paused queries automatically re-fire and the app resumes normal operation — no manual refresh required.

When you see the banner

The offline banner appears automatically — you do not trigger it yourself. When you see it, wait for your connection to return before attempting to submit or retrieve data. Once the banner disappears, the app has detected that you are back online and has resumed normal operation.

Important: This is not offline support. The offline banner means the app is aware of your network status — it is not a sign that offline functionality is available. While offline, you cannot submit or retrieve data. The banner is there to prevent silent failures, not to enable offline work.
