In Gearbelt, you can generate blank QR codes and assign them to assets at a later stage. This is especially useful when assets are new, not yet on-site, or not yet entered into the system. It also helps when an existing QR code becomes damaged or lost, allowing you to quickly print and assign a new code without interrupting workflows. This guide explains how to assign a blank QR code to an asset using your mobile device.

Prerequisites

Before you begin make sure you have the following:

  • Plan: All Plan Types

  • Permission: Gearbelt Contributor

  • Skills Required: QR code scanning and Gearbelt Navigation

  • Device Type: Mobile device

  • Subscription: Gearbelt

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open your mobile phone’s camera.

  2. Scan the blank (unassigned) QR code using your camera app.

  3. Tap the link displayed on your screen.

  4. Log in to Gearbelt using your phone number.

  5. Search for and select the asset you want to assign to the blank QR code.

  6. Click Assign QR.

  7. In the new pop-up window, click Assign to confirm the action.

Note: Each asset can only have one active QR code at a time. Assigning a new blank QR code to an asset will deactivate the previous one. You will be asked to confirm before proceeding:
