How to fix 'no selection' error on lists

Identify why the “No selection” error on lists happens in Dashpivot and how to fix it.

Written by Adriana De Souza

When using lists in Dashpivot forms, you may see a dropdown list field display “No selection” even though list items exist. This article explains why that happens and how to fix it so your list values appear correctly in templates and forms.

What’s happening

You’re filling out a form in Dashpivot that uses a linked list (e.g., workers, assets, cost codes, etc.) but when you tap the dropdown field, it shows “No selection” instead of the available options.

Why this happens

This issue most often occurs when a list has been deployed to a project folder, but no specific items have been selected for that folder. In Dashpivot, lists can be deployed from the central Home Folder list library into project folders to limit what appears in those projects. If the list deployment includes zero items, the dropdown will show “No selection.”

How to fix it

Follow these steps in order to resolve the “No selection” error:

  1. Go to the List Library (Home Folder)
Open Dashpivot Web and navigate to the Home Folder > List Library where your list is stored.

  2. Un-deploy the list (if deployed)
If the list has been deployed to project folders, un-deploy it so that all list items are available by default.
Why: Deploying lists is meant to limit items — un-deploying restores the full set and prevents “No selection” fields.

  3. If you need a filtered list in a project

    • Go to the Home Folder > List Library

    • Tick the list you want to customise

    • Select Deploy to Project Folder

    • Then open the list from that project’s Lists section

    • Use Add Item to choose which specific items you want available there

    • Start typing and select from the existing home library suggestions
This ensures only the selected list items are shown in that project.

  4. Populate project-specific list (optional)
If you have a large volume of project-specific list items:

    • Create a blank list in the Home Folder,

    • Deploy it to the desired project folder,

    • Then upload the list items into that list within the project folder.

If the issue continues

  • Confirm the list you’re using in the template is the correct list and has items visible in the target folder.

  • Check that you haven’t accidentally linked the wrong list field in your template builder.

  • If un-deploying doesn’t work as expected, try creating a new list and linking it afresh in your template.
