How to Fill a Sheet Form (Truck Tally) Using Storm AI Form Fill in Dashpivot

Learn how to use Storm AI Form Fill to extract truck tally data from photos of physical tally sheets or dockets, and from voice or typed input.

Written by Nina Yang

Sheet forms used for truck tallies require accurate records of vehicle IDs, load counts, quantities, and progressive totals — captured on site as trucks arrive and depart. Storm can extract this data from photos of physical tally sheets and dockets, or from voice and typed input, and drafts the form for you.

Just photograph the tally sheet or dictate the movements, and Storm fills the form — ready for you to review.

What Storm Can Do With Sheet Forms (Truck Tallies)

  • Extract vehicle IDs, quantities, and progressive totals from photos of physical tally sheets via OCR

  • Extract truck movement data, load counts, and supplier details from voice or typed input

  • Route extracted data to the correct table cells in Sheet-type form templates

  • Handle multilingual crews — Storm detects spoken language and outputs in the template's destination language

Before You Start

  • AI Form Fill must be enabled for your workspace.

  • This capability applies specifically to Sheet-type form templates — not standard form templates.

  • For photo input: photograph the tally sheet flat, square-on, and in good light for best OCR accuracy.

How to Do It

📱 On Dashpivot or Sitemate Mobile

  1. Open your Sheet form in Dashpivot or Sitemate Mobile.

  2. Tap the Storm button at the bottom of the form to open the AI Form Fill canvas.

  3. Choose your input method:

    • Photo: Photograph the physical tally sheet flat and square-on. Attach the photo using the photo icon.

    • Voice: Tap the microphone and dictate truck movements, load counts, and supplier details.
For example: "Truck ABC-123, 10 tonnes of sand, supplier: Boral. Truck DEF-456, 8 tonnes of gravel, supplier: Hanson."

  4. Tap the green arrow to submit.

  5. Review the draft Storm generates, make any corrections, and submit as normal.

💻 On Dashpivot Web

  1. Open your Sheet form in Dashpivot.

  2. In the Storm AI Form Fill canvas at the bottom of the form, type your tally data or attach a photo of the tally sheet using the paperclip icon.

  3. Click Fill ↑.

  4. Review the draft, make any corrections, and save or submit manually.

✏️ Good to Know

  • Shoot flat and square-on for best OCR results. Angled, shadowed, or blurry photos of tally sheets significantly reduce extraction accuracy. Lay the sheet flat and shoot in good light.

  • Use both photo and voice for the most complete fill. Photos carry structured data (vehicle IDs, quantities). Voice carries context (supplier name, load type). Using both together produces the most accurate result.

  • This applies to Sheet-type templates only. Storm's truck tally extraction is specifically designed for Sheet-type form templates. Standard form templates use a different fill approach.

  • Storm drafts, you decide. Storm never submits forms on your behalf — you always review before saving or submitting.

FAQs

Can Storm read handwritten tally sheets?
Storm attempts to read handwritten text but accuracy is lower than printed text. For best results, photograph printed tally sheets. If handwritten details are critical, dictate them in your voice recording as a backup.

Can Storm extract progressive totals from a tally sheet photo?
Yes — if the progressive totals are clearly visible and printed on the sheet. Storm uses OCR to extract quantities and totals from the photo.

What if the tally sheet photo is blurry or angled?
OCR accuracy drops significantly with poor photo quality. Shoot flat, square-on, and in good light. If results are inaccurate, dictate the tally data via voice recording instead.

Will Storm submit my Sheet form automatically?
No. Storm drafts the form for you to review — you always save or submit manually.
