Troubleshooting Conditional Logic Errors in the Dashpivot Template Editor

Identify why conditional logic errors occur in the Dashpivot template editor and how to resolve each error message.

Written by Nina Yang

Conditional logic in Dashpivot lets you show or hide fields in a template based on a user's input — for example, showing a photo field only when a Yes/No question is answered "No."

This article covers every error message you may see when setting up or saving conditional logic in the Template Editor, what's causing it, and how to fix it.

"This template contains incomplete or invalid logic."

Why this happens

A logic block is missing a trigger value, a target field, or both. The template editor will not save until all logic blocks are complete.

How to fix it

Open each logic block and make sure a trigger value is selected and at least one target field is added. Remove any empty logic blocks.

"Cannot add logic field into another logic field."

Why this happens

Conditional logic in Dashpivot operates on a single layer. A field that is already inside a logic block cannot have its own logic rule.

How to fix it

Move the field outside the logic block before adding logic to it, or restructure your template so the trigger field is at the top level.

"Approval Signatures cannot be placed within Logic blocks."

Why this happens

Approval Signature fields use a separate logic system (Approval Signature Logic) and cannot be placed inside a standard conditional logic block.

How to fix it

Remove the Approval Signature from the logic block. To control when an Approval Signature appears, use Approval Signature Logic instead.

"Page break fields cannot be placed within Logic blocks." / "Repeating group fields cannot be placed within Logic blocks."

Why this happens

Page breaks and repeating groups are structural elements that are not supported as targets inside a conditional logic rule.

How to fix it

Remove the page break or repeating group from the logic block. Restructure the template so these elements sit outside any logic rules.

"Duplicating actions detected in logic"

Why this happens

Two or more logic rules are configured to show or hide the same target field. Each field can only appear as a target in one logic action.

How to fix it

Review all logic blocks and remove duplicate target fields so each field appears in only one logic action.

"Plan type rule limit exceeded" / "Limit of X conditional logic blocks exceeded."

Why this happens

Your Dashpivot plan has a maximum number of conditional logic blocks per template. Adding more blocks than your plan allows triggers this error.

How to fix it

Remove excess logic blocks to bring the total within your plan's limit. To add more logic blocks, upgrade your plan.

"Unable to apply Approval Signature logic to this signature/workflow, as the number of conditions has exceeded your current plan limit."

Why this happens

Each Approval Signature field has a plan-based limit on the number of conditions it can contain: Pro (3), Premium (6), Platinum (12).

How to fix it

Reduce the number of conditions on the Approval Signature to within your plan's limit, or upgrade your plan.

"Unable to perform this action. Cloning this logic block will exceed your current plan limit."

Why this happens

Cloning the logic block would push the total number of logic blocks over your plan's limit.

How to fix it

Delete an existing logic block before cloning, or upgrade your plan.

If the issue continues

If the error persists after following the steps above, try refreshing the page and repeating the fix. For plan limit errors, check your current plan tier with your account admin. If you're still stuck, contact Sitemate support with a screenshot of the error and the template name.
