The Sitemate MCP (Model Context Protocol) custom Copilot app enables teams to connect Microsoft Copilot with their Dashpivot data, allowing users to query workspaces, forms, and reports using AI.
This guide outlines how to enable MCP access, upload the custom app, and make it available to users.
Prerequisites
Before you begin make sure you have the following:
Plan: All Plan Types
Permission: Org Controller
Subscription:
Dashpivot
Microsoft 365 subscription with Microsoft 365 Copilot (premium plan) — a standard M365 plan with a basic Copilot add-on is not sufficient. See Microsoft 365 Copilot pricing for plan details.
Microsoft 365 Global Administrator or AI Administrator role to upload and publish the app (see Microsoft 365 admin roles guide for more details)
Sitemate account with MCP access enabled in your workspace (Home Folder > Settings > Sitemate Start > Security)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Enable MCP access in Dashpivot
Before anyone in your workspace can use the MCP, an Org Controller must enable MCP access in Dashpivot's security settings.
Not an Org Controller? Ask your workspace's Org Controller to complete this step for you. You can skip ahead to Step 2 once they confirm it's enabled.
If you are an Org Controller:
Log in to Dashpivot
Navigate to Security Settings for your workspace
Find the MCP Access toggle
Set the MCP access level to enabled (any level other than "None" will enable MCP access)
Click Save Changes
Once MCP access is enabled at the workspace level, users in that workspace can proceed to use the Copilot app.
Your workspace's Org Controller needs to enable MCP access before anyone can connect AI tools to your workspace data. This ensures your organisation has full control over whether external AI services can access your projects, forms, and reports.
Step 2: Install Sitemate Copilot Application from the Marketplace
Open the Sitemate MCP listing on Microsoft Marketplace.
Select Get it now and sign in with your Microsoft 365 admin account. This opens the deployment screen in the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre's Integrated apps portal.
Review the app information and the products it will be available on, then select Next.
Choose who should have access — your entire organisation, specific users or groups, or Just me to pilot it first — then select Next.
Review and accept any requested permissions, then select Finish deployment.
Your deployment status is visible under Settings > Integrated apps in the Admin Centre. Allow a few minutes for it to propagate before users access it in Copilot (Step 3).
Step 3: Start Using Sitemate MCP in Microsoft Copilot
Once the agent is deployed, users in your organisation can access it in Microsoft Copilot:
Open Microsoft Copilot (via https://copilot.microsoft.com or through the Microsoft 365 app)
The Sitemate MCP agent should appear as an available tool
Start asking Copilot questions about your Dashpivot data, for example:
"Show me my workspaces in Dashpivot"
"What forms were submitted this week?"
"List all overdue forms in [project name]"
Troubleshooting
MCP access is not enabled for my workspace
Only Org Controllers can enable MCP access. Contact your workspace's Org Controller and ask them to enable MCP access under Security Settings. If MCP access is set to "None", users in that workspace will not be able to authenticate with the MCP server.
I don't have the required admin role
Uploading custom Copilot agents requires a Global Administrator or AI Administrator role in Microsoft 365. Contact your organisation's IT admin to either grant you the appropriate role or to upload the agent on your behalf. See the Microsoft 365 admin roles documentation for more information.
The agent isn't showing in Copilot after installation
Allow a few minutes for the installation to propagate. Try refreshing Copilot or opening a new chat. If the issue persists, check the Agents section in the Admin Centre to confirm the installation status.
Authentication error when using the agent
Make sure you're signed in with a Sitemate account that has MCP access enabled. Also confirm that MCP access has been enabled for your Dashpivot workspace (Step 1). If you're unsure, contact your Sitemate representative.
