How to set up an Excel integration with Dashpivot via Flowsite

This guide explains how to set up an Excel integration with Dashpivot using Flowsite. By creating a flow in Flowsite and connecting it to Excel using the web connector, you can automatically export Dashpivot data into a hosted CSV file and refresh it in Excel on a scheduled basis. This process removes the need for manual dashboard exports and ensures your Excel reports stay up to date.

Prerequisites

Before you begin make sure you have the following:

  • Plan: Standard, Pro, Prenium, Platinum

  • Permission: Access to Flowsite and Dashpivot connections

  • Skills Required: Dashpivot

  • Device Type: computer

  • Subscription: Flowsite

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open your Flowsite workspace.

  2. Go to the Connections tab and confirm that a Dashpivot connection is set up.

  3. If no connection exists, click Add Dashpivot Connection and complete the connection setup.

  4. Identify the Dashpivot template you want to export data from and locate its Template ID.

  5. Return to Flowsite and go to the Flows tab.

  6. Click Add Power BI Flow.

  7. Copy the Template ID from Dashpivot and paste it into the URL ID field.

  8. Enter a name for the flow.

  9. Set the trigger time (for example, 3:00 a.m. UTC).

  10. Click Save to create the flow.

  11. Wait for the flow run status to change from Pending to Successful.

  12. Go to the Flows tab and click the Copy URL button for the hosted file.

  13. Open Microsoft Excel.

  14. Go to the Data tab.

  15. Click From Web.

  16. Paste the copied URL into the URL field and click OK.

  17. In Flowsite, click the Copy button for the username.

  18. In the Excel authentication window, select Basic authentication.

  19. Enter the username and password.

  20. In the credential scope dropdown, select the last option to apply credentials to the entire URL.

  21. Click Connect.

  22. Review the data preview in Excel.

  23. Click Load to load the data into your workbook.

After the initial setup, the flow will run automatically at the scheduled trigger time each day. To update your Excel file with the latest Dashpivot data, click Refresh in Excel after the trigger time has passed.
