Troubleshooting: Clone Button Issues When Cloning Templates on Dashpivot

Identify why template cloning fails and how to resolve common cloning errors.

Written by Nina Yang

This article covers issues where the Clone button is unavailable or returns an error when cloning templates in Dashpivot.

What’s happening

When attempting to clone a template in Dashpivot, the Clone button may be disabled, or clicking it triggers an error message that prevents the template from being cloned.

Why this happens

The Clone button is restricted when required conditions are not met (such as unsaved changes, validation errors, or missing fields), when the template contains unsupported fields, or when cloning is blocked by platform limitations.

How to fix it

Issue

Solution

Clone button is greyed out

Your template contains unsupported fields. Use the Manual Raw Code method instead.

"Please save your changes before cloning" message

Save your template first, then try clicking Clone again.

"Validation errors" message

Fix any validation errors in your template before cloning.

Clone failed due to network error

Check your internet connection and try again.

“Template needs to have at least one field” message

Add at least one field before cloning.

Limitations

  • Cloning creates a copy in the same folder as the original template.

  • Cross-team and cross-folder cloning is not currently supported.

  • Deployed team templates cannot be cloned directly.

  • Deployment rules are not copied when cloning.

  • Templates cannot be changed from Timeline to Workflow or vice versa during the cloning process.
