How to Clone a Template Using the Clone Button on Dashpivot Web

Learn how to duplicate an existing Dashpivot template for reuse or versioning using a clone button

Written by Nina Yang

The Clone button provides the fastest way to duplicate a template. The cloned template opens automatically in a new browser tab, ready for editing. However, it is currently only available for templates that don't contain certain unsupported fields (support for these fields is coming soon).

Prerequisites

Before you begin make sure you have the following:

Plan: Dashpivot Standard
Permission: Any Controller permission (i.e. Org, Project or Team Controller)
Device Type: Computer or Tablet
Subscription: Active Dashpivot Web workspace

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the template you want to clone in the Template Editor.

  2. Save any unsaved changes to the template. The Clone button will not work if there are unsaved changes.

  3. Click the Clone button in the template editor header.

  4. The cloned template will automatically open in a new browser tab.

  5. The new template will have "(Copy)" appended to its name. Update the template name as needed.

  6. Make any other required changes to the template.

  7. Save the template.

What Gets Copied

When you clone a template using the Clone button, the following are copied to the new template:

  • All template fields and their configurations

  • Header and footer settings

  • Page orientation (A4/Letter, Portrait/Landscape)

  • View settings (Grid/Timeline display)

  • Download/PDF export settings

  • Template tabs

  • Template attachments

  • Workflow Column Names

  • Workflow Notification Configuration

Note:

  • The cloned template will have a new template ID, the version will start at 1, and "Created by" will show your name (not the original creator).
