How to Use the Counter Field on Forms on Dashpivot Web

Learn how to add and configure a Counter field on Dashpivot Web to create unique, sequential identifiers for forms

Written by Nina Yang

The Counter field in Dashpivot Web allows you to create custom, unique identifiers for your forms. This feature helps teams reference forms easily, maintain document control, and track records consistently. It is designed for users building or editing templates who need structured, sequential numbering within their team.

Prerequisites

Before you begin make sure you have the following:

  • Plan: Standard, Pro, Premium, or Platinum

  • Permission: Org Controller or Template Editor

Step-by-Step Instructions

Add a Counter Field to a Template on Dashpivot Web

  1. Open the template editor in Dashpivot Web.

  2. Drag the Counter field from the field panel onto the template.

  3. Click Edit on the Counter field.

  4. Add your preferred elements to configure the counter structure:

    • Prefilled Text: Add a custom prefix like "PO" or "NCR"

    • File Path: Display the workspace/project/team

    • Template ID: Display the template ID

    • Project Folder Name: Display the project folder name in the counter string

    • Team Folder Name: Display the team folder name in the counter string

  5. Confirm the Counter field displays as Active after forms have been created and the counter has started.

How Counter Numbers Are Assigned

  • Counter numbers are assigned automatically when a form is saved.

  • Each new form receives the next sequential number.

  • Numbers are unique per template within each team.

  • Counter values cannot be reset or manually edited.

Important Notes and Tips

  • Forms created before a Counter field is added do not receive a counter value.

  • Deleting a Counter field permanently stops the counter, and no new numbers will be assigned.

  • Using Project Folder Name or Team Folder Name in your counter structure helps avoid duplicate counter strings when deploying the same org template across multiple team folders.
