How does Offline Mode work on Dashpivot Mobile App?

Learn how to use the Dashpivot app without an internet connection

The Dashpivot smartphone app can be used seamlessly when offline, without Wi-Fi or an internet connection. It operates the same as when you have a connection, allowing you to take photos and fill out forms. Once you regain connection, the app will upload the information in the background.

Limitations

  • The Dashpivot Mobile App is selective about what information it stores locally on your device for offline access. It stores a list of all your teams and projects, but only stores data from the team you last opened before going offline, including: all template formats (so you can fill out forms), the latest 300 photos, and the last 30 forms per template.

  • If you switch teams while offline, you will not be able to fill out new forms in that team. Instead, you can only capture photos.

  • When you regain connection, you need to open the app to trigger it to sync the information with the website, and leave it open until the upload is complete. Exiting or shutting down the app during this upload period will pause the upload until you reopen it.

  • Pending or paused uploads stay stored on your device until they are uploaded or cleared. You can clear them by uninstalling the app or manually clearing local storage in the settings.

Ideal Flow

  1. In the Dashpivot Mobile App, go to the team you intend to upload information to before going offline.

  2. Capture photos and forms while offline.

  3. Open the app and leave it open to allow it to upload when you regain connection.

Can I capture Photo GPS Location Data in Offline Mode?

In the Dashpivot mobile app, as long as Location Services are enabled in your device settings, the GPS location of any photos captured will be stored regardless of whether you have a signal.

  • For Android users, you'll need to activate location tags

  • For Apple users, you'll need to enable location services

Assuming that your device’s Location Services are enabled, when a photo is taken in offline mode:

  • The coordinates will be added to the photo as metadata.

  • However, if a photo is taken and viewed in offline mode, the map will not load because it requires an internet connection to display the map.

  • When the device is back online, viewing the photo will display the location map.

Where will the GPS location be when a device is offline?

  • When there is no GPS signal, the location captured on a photo will be the nearest cellular tower location.

  • When there is no cellular signal as well, then:

    • Your device can use different information in the surrounding area, such as Bluetooth and available Wi-Fi.

    • The device can also store the last location and use it for the photo.

Location tagging capability is largely dependent on the device rather than the Dashpivot mobile app. Dashpivot mobile simply uses the device’s ability to obtain the location.
