How to Fill a Machine or Plant Pre-Start Using Storm AI Form Fill in Dashpivot

Learn how to use Storm AI Form Fill to complete machine and plant pre-start checklists in Dashpivot.

Written by Nina Yang

Machine and plant pre-start checks are equipment-specific safety inspections completed before operating a machine or piece of plant on site — covering items such as fluid levels, lights, brakes, and mechanical condition.

Storm uses a dedicated machine guide to fill these forms — separate from the guide it uses for crew pre-start briefings and site diaries. This means Storm understands the checklist structure of a machine pre-start and fills check items as pass/fail, rather than prompting for diary-style information such as weather, crew attendance, or daily activities.

Prerequisites

  • AI Form Fill must be enabled for your workspace.

  • Device Type: Computer or Mobile

Step-by-Step Instructions

📱 On Dashpivot or Sitemate Mobile

  1. Open your machine or plant pre-start form in Dashpivot Mobile.

  2. Tap the Storm button at the bottom of the form to open the AI Form Fill canvas.

  3. Tap the microphone and describe the pre-start outcome:

    • To pass all check items, say something like “All good” or “All checks passed” — Storm will mark every item as passed.

    • To fail a specific item, name the fault — for example, “The left rear indicator is not working” — and Storm will fail that item only, leaving the rest as passed.

  4. Optionally, add a photo of any fault or equipment detail.

  5. Tap the green arrow to submit.

  6. Review the draft Storm generates, make any corrections, and submit as normal.

💻 On Dashpivot Web

  1. Open your machine or plant pre-start form in Dashpivot.

  2. In the Storm AI Form Fill canvas at the bottom of the form, type your pre-start outcome or record a voice note.

  3. Click Fill ↑.

  4. Review the draft, make any corrections, and save or submit manually.

✏️ Good to Know

  • Storm does not ask diary-style questions on machine/plant pre-starts. Weather, crew attendance, and daily activities are not prompted on these forms — those belong to site diaries and crew pre-start briefings.

  • “All good” passes every check item. Saying or typing “All good”, “All checks passed”, or similar fills every check item as passed in a single step.

  • Named faults fail only that item. Describe a specific fault and Storm will fail that check item only, leaving the rest unaffected.

  • Storm drafts, you decide. Always review the filled form before saving or submitting.

💡 Tip: Use a clear, specific form title — for example, “Excavator Pre-Start Checklist” or “Plant Pre-Start” — so Storm classifies your form correctly from the start.

Limitations

If Storm appears to be treating your machine pre-start like a diary or crew briefing, check your form title and make it more specific — for example, “Excavator Pre-Start Checklist” or “Plant Pre-Start”.
