Cloning a project folder creates a new folder with the same team folder structure, templates, lists, and photo tags as an existing one. This is useful when a new project, site, or contract needs the same setup as one you already run — instead of building it folder by folder.
Prerequisites
Plan: All Dashpivot plans, including free trials
Permission: Org Controller
Device Type: Computer
Subscription: Dashpivot
Step-by-Step Instructions
Open the folder list and locate the project folder you want to clone.
Click the three-dot menu next to the project folder.
Select Clone Folder.
Choose what to copy in the confirmation modal. Everything is selected by default, so untick anything you don't want copied.
Click Clone Folder.
If some templates or lists can't be cloned, a Review before cloning window opens. Fix the items listed, or click Skip and clone to clone the folder without them. See Review before cloning below.
The cloned folder is created in the same project as the original and named Copy of [folder name]. If a copy already exists, the next one is numbered (Copy(1) of…). When it finishes, you are taken into the new folder with its name ready to edit.
Review before cloning
Before anything is created, Dashpivot checks whether every template in the folder can be cloned. If any exceed the field limit for your plan, the Review before cloning window lists each one with the issue and a View template link, which opens it in a new tab.
To include these templates, either:
Remove the excess fields, or
Upgrade your plan to add more fields
Then click Refresh to check again. Otherwise, click Skip and clone to clone the folder without them, or Cancel to close the window without cloning. Nothing is created until you click Skip and clone.
ℹ️ Note: If you skip cloning a template that another template links to, that template will clone with a broken relationship link.
What Gets Cloned?
Cloning copies the project's setup — not its data.
✅ What comes across
The project folder itself, created in the same workspace
Project photo tags
Lists created in the folder
Lists deployed to the folder from the workspace level (re-deployed, so they stay linked to the workspace list and continue receiving updates)
A team folder for every active team folder in the original project
Templates created in each of those team folders
Templates deployed to those team folders from the workspace level (re-deployed, so they stay linked to the workspace template and continue receiving updates)
Template tabs
Photo tags on each of those team folders
Templates in the new project are linked to the new project's lists, not the original project's. Relationship fields that point to other templates in the project are linked to the new copies.
❌ What does not come across
Forms, photos, and activity history — cloning copies the setup, never the data inside it
Users and their permissions — you will need to add people to the new project and its team folders yourself
Analytics, Actions, and project alignment settings
Archived or deleted team folders, templates, and lists — anything archived or deleted in the original is skipped
Templates and lists you skip in the Review before cloning window
Who Can Clone a Project Folder?

Member | ❌ Cannot clone folders |
Requirements & Limitations
Same workspace only. You cannot clone a folder into a different workspace.
Active folders only. You can only start a clone from the Active folder view — Clone Folder is not available in the Archived view. Once a clone is in progress, navigating to a different tab (such as Archived) will not interrupt or cancel it.
Plan limits. Templates over your plan's field limit can't be cloned. They are listed in the Review before cloning window, where you can fix them, upgrade your plan, or skip them.
All or nothing. If something goes wrong partway through, nothing is created — you will get a single error message and no half-built folder is left behind. You can safely try again.
ℹ️ Note: Cloning runs as a background process. Once you click Clone Folder, you can safely switch between folder tabs (for example, from Active to Archived) without interrupting or cancelling the operation. The clone will complete normally regardless of where you navigate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I see the Clone Folder option on my project? Clone Folder appears in the three-dot menu on a project only when both of the following are true: you are an Org Controller, and you are in the active folder view (not Archived). Project Controllers see Clone Folder on team folders but not on projects.
Will my templates be copied into the new project? Yes. Each new team folder gets the templates and template tabs from the team folder it was copied from. If you don't want templates copied, untick Templates and template tabs in the confirmation modal.
What happens to my lists?
Lists created in the folder are copied into the new project. Lists that belong to the workspace and are deployed to the original project are deployed to the new project too — rather than copied — so there is still only one of them.
Why weren't some of my templates or lists cloned? Templates and lists that can't be cloned — for example, because they exceed your plan's limits — are listed in the Review before cloning window before the clone starts. If you choose Skip and clone, the folder is cloned without them.
Can I choose what gets cloned? Yes. Untick anything you don't want copied in the confirmation modal. Everything is ticked by default.
Will my forms and records be copied? No. Cloning copies the project's setup and nothing else.
Do I need to re-add users to the cloned project?
Yes. User access is not copied, so you will need to add people to the new project and its team folders yourself.
What happens if I switch folder tabs while a clone is in progress? The clone continues running in the background and completes normally, regardless of which tab you navigate to.
Can I clone a project into a different workspace? No. The clone is always created in the same workspace as the original.
Can I clone an archived project? No. Restore the project first, then clone it.
