How to Use Repeating Group fields in Your Dashpivot Templates

Learn how to add a Repeating Group field to your Dashpivot templates so form respondents can log multiple entries — like rooms, samples, or defects — using the same set of fields each time.

Written by Nina Yang

The Repeating Group field lets you put a set of fields together in your template so they can be repeated when filling in the form. You set it up once — then anyone filling in the form can add as many entries as they need.

For example, if you're inspecting a building with multiple rooms, you can create a group called "Room" with fields for name, condition, and photos. When filling in the form, you tap "+ Add Room" for each room you need to inspect.

🔒 Closed Beta — Access required
Repeating Groups is currently in closed beta. It must be enabled per workspace by Sitemate via Settings → Feature Access. If you can't see the Repeating Group field in your template editor, contact your Sitemate account manager or support to request access.

How you can use repeating groups

  • Inspecting multiple rooms, floors, or areas in a building

  • Recording test results across a variable number of samples

  • Logging defects or issues found on site

  • Checking the same items across multiple pieces of equipment or vehicles

  • Running audits across multiple control rooms or zones

Plan limits

  • Plan: 5 repeating group fields per template during Beta

  • Permission: Template Editor access

  • Required Platform: Dashpivot (Web Browser)

  • Device Type: Computer

Setting up a repeating group in your template

As a template editor, here's how to add a repeating group:

  1. Open the template you want to edit in the Template Editor.

  2. In the left panel, scroll to the Sections category.

  3. Drag the Repeating Group field onto your template.

  4. Configure the group's label and name:

    • Group title — Enter a clear label that describes what each entry represents overall (e.g., "Room", "Control Room", "Test Sample"). This is the overarching heading displayed for the field on the form.

    • Group name (Closed Beta) — Enter a default name for each individual repeating instance (e.g., "Room"). When a respondent adds a new entry on the form, this name pre-fills the label shown on that entry (e.g., "Room 1", "Room 2"). See the note below for more details.

  5. Drag the fields you want repeated into the group's drop zone. You can add up to 10 fields per group.

  6. Save your template.

📌 Note — Dedicated group name (Closed Beta) The dedicated group name sets the default label that appears on each new repeating group instance when a respondent adds an entry on a form. For example, if you set the group name to "Room", each new entry a respondent adds will be pre-labelled "Room 1", "Room 2", and so on — making it easy to identify individual entries at a glance, especially in forms with many entries. This feature is currently in Closed Beta and is available only to specific customers and internal users. If you don't see the Group Name field in your template editor, contact your Sitemate account manager to enquire about access.

Filling out a repeating group on a form

As a form respondent, here's how repeating groups work when you're filling in a form:

  1. Open a form that contains a repeating group.

  2. Fill in the fields in the first group.

  3. Tap "+ Add [Group Name]" to add another entry with the same set of fields.

  4. Keep adding entries as needed — up to 10 groups per field.

  5. To remove an entry, tap the delete icon on that group.

  6. Use the collapse/expand toggle to keep long forms organised.

⚠️ Note: Repeating groups are not yet available on mobile. Mobile support is coming in a future release.

Important considerations

  • Keep groups focused. Fewer fields per group means a smoother experience, especially when adding many entries.

  • Some field types are not yet supported. Tables, formulas, and logic fields inside repeating groups are coming in future releases.

  • Fields inside repeating groups cannot be set as required. This is coming in a future release.

  • Removing an entry deletes its data. If you remove a repeating group entry from a form, the data in that entry is permanently deleted.

What is the difference between the group title and the group name?

The group title is the overarching label for the repeating group field — it's the heading respondents see for the entire field on the form. The group name (Closed Beta) is a dedicated name that sets the default label on each individual repeating instance a respondent adds. For example, a group title of "Rooms" with a group name of "Room" would produce entries labelled "Room 1", "Room 2", and so on as respondents add them.

Why can't I see the Repeating Group field in my template editor?

Repeating Groups is currently in closed beta and must be enabled by Sitemate per workspace. Contact your account manager or support to request access.
