Pre-starts and toolbox talks in Dashpivot are completed before work begins — making them the ideal place to surface safety-critical information based on what's actually happening on site that day.

Pre-start forms in Dashpivot are filled out at the start of every shift. Different work types carry different risks — excavation, working at heights, and confined spaces each require specific permits, checklists, and precautions before work can begin.

Without conditional logic, you either include every possible safety prompt for every work type on every form — overwhelming workers with irrelevant information — or leave it out entirely and rely on workers to know what applies to them.

Conditional logic solves this by displaying only the safety information relevant to the work type selected that day. The right prompt appears automatically, at the right time, for the right task.

A List field in the Dashpivot pre-start template is used as the trigger. Workers select the type of work being conducted from a dropdown — for example, Excavation, Working at Heights, or Working in Confined Spaces. Each selection triggers its own unique logic block, displaying a prefilled text field with a task-specific safety prompt.

The prefilled text field isn't something workers fill in — it appears on the form as a read-only prompt, similar to a disclaimer, reminding them of the specific action required before starting work.

Additional work types and prompts can be added at any time by updating the List field options and adding new logic blocks in the Dashpivot template editor.

Setting up conditional logic on a List field in a Dashpivot pre-start template follows the same steps as any other conditional logic setup, with one difference — each List option needs its own independent logic block.
