Storm's AI Templates Import feature converts your existing documents directly into structured, editable Dashpivot templates. Upload a file, configure your preferences, and Storm extracts the structure, headings, fields, and tables — ready for review and deployment.

This article covers common import use cases organised by document type and workflow category.

How to Access the Import Feature

Navigate to Templates → Add Template → Build with AI → Import.

Drag and drop your files into the upload area, configure your preferences, and click Build.

Other Document Types

Storm can also import a wide range of other operational documents including:

  • Induction registers and sign-on sheets

  • Environmental checklists

  • Lot and hold point records

  • Standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • Custom forms and company-specific paperwork

If your document type is not listed, upload it — Storm will attempt to extract the structure regardless of document type.

Best Practices for Import Use Cases

  • Group similar documents together — import checklists with checklists, SWMS with SWMS. Consistent document types in one batch produce more consistent output.

  • Use digital source files where possible — clean PDFs, Word documents, and Excel files produce better results than scanned or photographed paper forms.

  • For scanned or photographed documents — shoot flat and square-on in good light. Angled or shadowed scans reduce OCR accuracy significantly.

  • Always review safety and compliance documents before operational use. Storm builds the structure — verifying content accuracy is your responsibility.

Current Limitations

  • Conditional logic rules and formulas are not automatically generated — add these manually in the template editor after import.

  • Password-protected or encrypted files are not supported. Remove encryption before uploading.

  • Complex multi-column layouts and heavily scanned documents may require additional manual refinement after import.

  • Maximum file size is 100MB per file, with up to 10 files per batch.

FAQ

Can I import any document type?
Storm supports .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .csv, .png, and .jpeg files. If your document type is supported, upload it and Storm will attempt to extract the structure.

Will my imported template perfectly match the original document?
Not always. Storm attempts to preserve structure, headings, tables, and formatting. Complex documents, low-quality scans, or unusual layouts may require manual refinement after import.

Can I import multiple documents at once?
Yes. You can import up to 10 files in a single batch. For best results, group similar document types together in the same batch.

Do imported templates require review before use?
Yes. Always review imported templates before operational use — particularly safety, compliance, and approval-heavy workflows.

Is my uploaded data used to train AI models?
No. Storm does not use customer data or uploaded documents to train AI models.
