The weather field automatically captures real-time weather conditions when a user completes a form on the Dashpivot or Sitemate mobile apps. This field is commonly used for site diaries, pre-starts, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), or any record requiring environmental data.
A single weather field captures multiple readings throughout the day to track changing conditions across a shift. On the current day, weather data is recorded at fixed 2-hour intervals: 6 AM, 8 AM, 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 4 PM, and 6 PM.
Note: Weather data can only be captured using the Dashpivot or Sitemate mobile apps. However, the recorded details can be viewed on both web browsers and mobile devices.
Prerequisites
Plan: All Plan Types
Permission: Org Controller
Required Platform: Dashpivot (Web Browser)
Device Type: Computer, Mobile
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Create a new template or open an existing template to edit it.
In the field panel, scroll to the Weather section (located directly beneath the Location section).
Drag the Single Day Weather field into your template layout.
Set the Required, Exclude from PDF Exports, and Exclude from Form Fill settings based on your requirements.
Save your template.
To adjust measurement units, navigate to Settings → View Settings and scroll to the Weather Measurements section. Use the dropdown menus to select your preferred units for temperature, wind speed, and rainfall.
Important Considerations
Required Setting: This validation applies to mobile devices only. Because weather data cannot be captured on a web browser, enabling Required only enforces completion when the form is filled out via the Dashpivot or Sitemate mobile apps.
Form Cloning: The Exclude from form cloning setting is permanently enabled for weather fields. Because weather data is tied to a specific time and location, it does not carry over to cloned forms.
How Weather Fields Appear on Forms
A Capture Weather button displays within the form. When a user taps this button on a mobile device, the app records the current weather at their GPS location.
Once captured, the field displays the reading alongside the specific time, date, and coordinates. The system records the following data points:
Conditions: Visual icon and description (e.g., Clear, Cloudy, Rain)
Temperature: Current temperature
Feels Like: Perceived temperature
Humidity: Percentage value (e.g., 60%)
Wind: Speed and direction
Rainfall: Accumulated precipitation since the previous reading
Weather Data in Register View
Weather field data is now fully supported in Register View. When a template contains one or more weather fields, a corresponding column appears in the Register for each weather field, displaying the captured weather data for every form submitted.
You can filter by weather columns in Register View, just like other supported field types.
Note: CSV and PDF export of weather data from Register View is not yet available. This feature is coming soon
Weather Data Source & Accuracy
Dashpivot uses OpenWeather as its data provider. OpenWeather aggregates data from national meteorological agencies (including the UK Met Office, NOAA, and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology), satellites, radar, and local weather stations (full list of sources). It is an ISO 9001 and ISO 27001-certified provider.
Data Accuracy Breakdown
Data Type | Production Method | Accuracy Level | Update Frequency |
Nowcast
(Current Readings) | Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models blended with live observations at the moment of request. | High: Typically within 2°C of station ground truth. | Updated approximately every 10 minutes. |
Observed
(Past Readings) | The Nowcast reading is updated and refined with retrospective observations ingested after the timestamp. | Very High: Incorporates hindsight observations that were unavailable during the initial reading. | Continuous refinement as historical data processes. |
Forecast
(Future Readings) | NWP model projections forward in time. | High (Short-Term): Accuracy decreases the further out the forecast extends. | • <48-Hour Forecasts: Updated hourly.
• ≥2-Day Forecasts: Updated every 24 hours. |
Plan Limits
Weather fields are available across all Dashpivot subscription plans.
A maximum of 10 weather fields can be added per individual template.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Does the Weather Field support a 5-7 day forecast?
Not currently. The Weather Field is single day only. A multi-day forecast is on the product roadmap (V3) but has no confirmed timeline. Customers can submit feedback via the roadmap here: https://portal.productboard.com/wm6whau7st9md1ulztigrv4n/tabs/8-scheduled
Does the weather data update automatically throughout the day?
No — the field captures a snapshot at the moment you tap "Capture Weather" and does not update automatically. The future time slots you see are forecasts as of that capture moment, not live-updating. To get updated readings later in the day, simply tap the Weather Field again (it's designed to support multiple readings across a shift). A visual label distinguishing observed vs. forecast hours is coming in a future update.
Can I capture weather on web?
No. Weather can only be captured on the Dashpivot or Sitemate mobile apps. You can view recorded weather data on both web and mobile.
Can I capture weather more than once on the same form?
Yes. You can tap the Weather Field multiple times throughout the day to capture additional readings across a shift. Each reading is recorded with its own timestamp.
