What’s happening
When attempting to record your location in the Sitemate app:
The location field does not capture your GPS position.
The “Record Location” button may not respond.
The app may show no coordinates or fail to update your position.
This prevents your form from saving accurate GPS data.
Why this happens
Location recording relies on your device’s GPS and permission settings. The issue typically occurs for one of the following reasons:
Location services are turned off on your device.
The Sitemate app does not have permission to access your location.
Location accuracy settings are disabled or set to low accuracy.
You are in an area with weak GPS signal (e.g., indoors or underground).
Your device software or app version is outdated.
How to fix it
Follow the steps below in order:
1. Turn On Location Services
On iPhone:
Open Settings.
Tap Privacy & Security.
Tap Location Services.
Ensure Location Services is turned on.
On Android:
Open Settings.
Tap Location.
Ensure location is turned on.
2. Allow Location Access for the Sitemate App
On iPhone:
Go to Settings.
Scroll to and tap Sitemate.
Tap Location.
Select While Using the App or Always.
Ensure Precise Location is enabled.
On Android:
Go to Settings.
Tap Apps.
Select Sitemate.
Tap Permissions.
Ensure Location is allowed.
3. Enable High Accuracy Mode (Android Only)
Go to Settings.
Tap Location.
Ensure Location Accuracy or High Accuracy Mode is enabled.
4. Move to an Area with Better GPS Signal
Go outdoors if possible.
Avoid underground areas or locations surrounded by heavy structures.
Wait a few moments for the GPS to update.
5. Update the App and Device Software
Update the Sitemate app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
Ensure your device operating system is up to date.
Restart your device after updating.
If the issue continues
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Sitemate app.
Test location recording in another app (e.g., Maps) to confirm GPS is functioning.
