Troubleshoot: Incorrect number of approval signatures in Dashpivot workflows

Identify why the incorrect number of approval signatures error is happening in Dashpivot and how to resolve it.

This error occurs when creating or editing a workflow template in Dashpivot and the number of approval signature fields does not align with the workflow configuration.

What’s happening

When you attempt to save or publish a workflow template, Dashpivot displays an error message indicating there is an incorrect number of approval signatures. This prevents the workflow template from being saved.

Why this happens

Approval signatures are used to move a form through workflow columns. Because of this, Dashpivot requires a specific relationship between workflow columns and approval signatures:

  • You must have one less approval signature than the total number of workflow columns.

  • Approval signatures are only available in workflow templates.

  • Other signature types, such as manual signatures or automatic signatures, do not count toward the approval signature requirement.

If the number of approval signature fields does not match this rule, Dashpivot will show the error.

How to fix it

Follow these steps from most common to least common:

  1. Check how many workflow columns your template has

    • Open the workflow template in the editor.

    • Review the workflow columns displayed at the top of the template.

  2. Count approval signature fields

    • Scroll through the template fields.

    • Count only fields set as Approval Signature.

  3. Ensure the correct relationship

    • Ensure the number of approval signature fields equals workflow columns minus one.

    • Examples:

      • 2 workflow columns β†’ 1 approval signature

      • 3 workflow columns β†’ 2 approval signatures

      • 4 workflow columns β†’ 3 approval signatures

  4. Adjust the template

    • Add approval signature fields if there are too few.

    • Remove approval signature fields if there are too many.

    • Save the template again.

If the issue continues

  • Double-check that you are not counting manual or automatic signatures.

  • Refresh the page and review the workflow setup again.

  • If the error persists, contact Sitemate Support and provide the template name and number of workflow columns.
