How to Edit Dashpivot Templates with Storm in the Template Editor

Learn how to use Storm in the Dashpivot template editor to create or edit templates with AI assistance.

Written by Nina Yang

Storm In-Editor is an AI assistant built directly into the Dashpivot template editor. It allows you to create new templates or make edits to existing ones using natural language prompts, without manually configuring every field or setting.

Prerequisites

Before you begin make sure you have the following:

  • Plan: Paid accounts only

  • Permission: Template editor access (Org/Project/Team Controller)

  • Storm - AI Templates enabled on your workspace

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to your Home folder (or your Team folder if the template lives there).

  2. Select your template and click Edit Template.

  3. Click Build with Storm in the top navigation bar of the template editor.

The Build with Storm panel opens on the left side.

  4. Type your prompt in the panel — for example, "Add a plant table under the materials table with columns for item, severity, and action".

  5. Review the changes Storm suggests.

  6. Accept or adjust the suggestions as needed.

  7. Click Save to apply the changes and record the new version.

You can use Storm to:

  • Add whole sections in one go

  • Restructure fields (e.g. "Turn these yes/no fields into a prefilled table")

  • Bulk-edit across the whole template (e.g. "Make all fields required")

  • Undo a turn — type "Undo the previous request" and Storm reverts the last change

  • Edit tables — add rows or tweak columns on an existing table field through chat instead of the table editor

How Storm edits and creations appear in the activity feed

When Storm In-Editor is used to edit or create a template, the action is automatically recorded in the Template History. This allows team admins to see when AI was used to make template changes.

Storm In-Editor entries in the Template History:

  • Appear as distinct version entries, just like any manual edit

  • Are attributed to Storm rather than a specific user's name, so you can identify AI-assisted changes at a glance

To view Storm activity in the Template History:

  1. Open the template in the template editor.

  2. Click the hamburger menu in the top-right corner of the editor.

  3. The Template History panel opens on the right-hand side, showing every saved version of the template.

  4. Look for entries attributed to Storm — these represent changes made using Storm In-Editor.

  5. Click the version entry to compare that version with the previous one.

Notes

  • Storm In-Editor actions are attributed to Storm (AI) in the Template History, not to an individual user. This applies to both template edits and new templates created using Storm.

  • You can compare any Storm-edited version with its previous version directly from the Template History panel.

  • Template History cannot currently be exported.

  • To revert a template to a previous version, contact our team via Live Chat.
