Storm In-Editor is an AI assistant built directly into the Dashpivot template editor. It allows you to create new templates or make edits to existing ones using natural language prompts — typed or spoken — without manually configuring every field or setting.
Prerequisites
Before you begin make sure you have the following:
Plan: Paid accounts only
Permission: Template editor access (Org/Project/Team Controller)
Storm - AI Templates enabled on your workspace
Opening Build with Storm
You can open the Build with Storm panel in the template editor in the following ways:
Manually: Open any template in the template editor and click Build with Storm in the top navigation bar.
From a completed Storm card: Click Review on a completed Storm card in the "Storm is building templates" section. The template editor opens with the Build with Storm panel already active.
From the generation canvas: Click Preview in Editor on the generation canvas. The template editor opens with the Build with Storm panel pre-loaded.
When opened via Review or Preview in Editor, the panel starts empty — it does not replay your generation chat history. You can begin prompting immediately.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Navigate to your Home folder (or your Team folder if the template lives there).
Select your template and click Edit Template.
Click Build with Storm in the top navigation bar of the template editor.
The Build with Storm panel opens on the left side.
Enter your prompt in the panel — you can type or speak your instructions:
To type: Click the text field and type your prompt — for example, "Add a plant table under the materials table with columns for item, severity, and action."
To speak: Click the microphone icon in the panel and speak your prompt. Storm transcribes your speech into text in real time.
For full details on using voice input, see How to Use Voice Transcription in the Storm Template Editor.
Review the changes Storm suggests.
Accept or adjust the suggestions as needed.
Click Save to apply the changes and record the new version.
You can use Storm to:
Add whole sections in one go
Restructure fields (e.g. "Turn these yes/no fields into a prefilled table")
Bulk-edit across the whole template (e.g. "Make all fields required")
Undo a turn — type or say "Undo the previous request" and Storm reverts the last change
Edit tables — add rows or tweak columns on an existing table field through chat instead of the table editor
Write and edit formulas in supported template types
Expect clear, honest responses — if a request falls outside Storm's current scope, Storm will tell you directly so you always know what to expect and can take an alternative approach if needed
Formula support
Storm can write and edit formulas in the following template types:
Daily Timesheets
Single Entry Weekly Timesheets
Multiple Entry Weekly Timesheets
Time Sensitive Timesheets
Scoring System
Risk Matrix
Automated Table Summary
Hand Arm Vibration Record
Formula support is template-type-specific — not all template types are covered. For prompting guidance by template type, see:
How Storm edits and creations appear in the activity feed
When Storm In-Editor is used to edit or create a template, the action is automatically recorded in the Template History. This allows team admins to see when AI was used to make template changes.
Storm In-Editor entries in the Template History:
Appear as distinct version entries, just like any manual edit
Are attributed to Storm rather than a specific user's name, so you can identify AI-assisted changes at a glance
To view Storm activity in the Template History:
Open the template in the template editor.
Click the hamburger menu in the top-right corner of the editor.
The Template History panel opens on the right-hand side, showing every saved version of the template.
Look for entries attributed to Storm — these represent changes made using Storm In-Editor.
Click the version entry to compare that version with the previous one.
Notes
Storm In-Editor actions are attributed to Storm (AI) in the Template History, not to an individual user. This applies to both template edits and new templates created using Storm.
You can compare any Storm-edited version with its previous version directly from the Template History panel.
Template History cannot currently be exported.
To revert a template to a previous version, contact our team via Live Chat.
Build with Storm is currently not available in the Action Template Editor or for accounts on a free trial. In these contexts, clicking Review on a completed Storm card opens the regular field editor instead of the Build with Storm panel.
Voice input language support: English and Spanish are supported at launch. Other languages are not currently available.
Storm clearly communicates which actions it supports. If you ask Storm to perform an action outside its current scope, Storm will tell you directly — so you always know what to expect.
When Storm asks a clarifying question during an edit, simply provide your answer and Storm will automatically complete the edit. No additional steps are required from you.
